Vegas PBS Keeping Kids Fit is a long term project designed to address childhood obesity. Exercise is important for maintaining a healthy body, building confidence, and sustaining focus on learning. Try these activities as a family to add more exercise to your daily routine:
Move with your favorite Vegas PBS character on TV.
If you see characters like Elmo, Barney, or the Dragon Tales dance and move on the television screen, don't just sit and watch--encourage your child to copy what they see. Children learn by example, so don't forget to get up and move too!
Read and move with action packed books.
We recommend Clap Your Hands by Lorinda Bryan Culley, Wiggle Waggle by Jonathan London, or From Head to Toe by Eric Carle. Help your child create their own action alphabet book with verbs such as jump, run, and walk.
Work on balance and hand eye coordination.
Toss scarves or practice walking from heel to toe on a jump rope.
